Sister's Home Style expands business
A homegrown business making homemade meals has turned Sister’s Home Style Entrees from a one-person niche business to downtown Humboldt’s largest employer, all in the span of just three years. When Deb Davis started Sister’s Home Style in Jan. 2011, she wasn’t sure what to expect. She had purchased the property at 619 Sumner Avenue that had been a day care and a computer store before that, and tried to retrofit it into a kitchen and retail area for selling her home baked meals. From selling 200 meals in her first month of operation in January 2011, Sister’s Home Style Entrees now prepares, packages and delivers almost 30,000 meals per month! The business has grown from Davis operating by herself to a staff of around 30 employees and growing. A second expansion is planned with the anticipated purchase of the former Humboldt Springs bottled water plant on Highway 169.
