Humboldt County Fair kicks off this week
The 2015 Humboldt County Fair opens this coming Tuesday, July 21, and runs through Sunday, July 26, at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds, 311 6th Ave. N. in Humboldt. There will be activities throughout the week along with the judging of FFA and 4-H entries and open class shows for horticulture exhibits, swine and pets. There will be a tractor ride, mud volleyball, Dream Carriage Rides, the Kent Family Circus, chainsaw artist exhibit and Next Generation Shows Carnival from Wednesday through Sunday and live entertainment in the grandstand every night. Something new this year is first three nights of the fair: harness racing (Tuesday), Little Miss and Mister, Queen Coronation, 4-H Style Show and Susie McIntire Concert (Wednesday) and the Six Appeal Vocal Bank (Thursday) are all free admission nights at the grandstand. Friday will feature the Lucas Oil Pro-Pulling League tractor and truck pull and Saturday night will be Chuckwagon races. Admission for adults both nights is $15 with children ages 5-12 admitted for $5. Sunday, July 26, will feature Motocross racing from 10 a.m. through the afternoon for $10, $5 for youth 5-12, with the Tough Truck Challenge event Sunday evening, with admission $15 and $5 for those ages 5-12. Children under five are admitted free with an adult. Three young ladies are vying for the title of Humboldt County Fair Queen for 2015. Here is their information. HALEY DAVIS Haley Davis, 19, is the daughter of Randy Davis and Tracy Schriber of Gilmore City. She attends Iowa State University. She is a member of Luther League, Weaver Valley 4-H Club, County Teen Council, and FFA. Her hobbies include Humboldt High School Dance Team, Orchesis II member and Tap Club member. SAMANTHA FERRY Samantha Ferry, 19, is the daughter of Kevin and Mary Catherine Ferry of Badger. She attends Central College. She is a member of ALIVE (church group at college), and St. Mary’s Steubenville Youth Group. Her hobbies include dance and she enjoys doing anything involving crafts.REBECCA WILHELM Rebecca Wilhelm, 17, is the daughter of David and Beth Wilhelm of Hardy. She plans to attend Iowa Central Community College in the fall. She is a member of Zion Lutheran LYC, HDC Clovers 4-H Group, National Honor Society, D.A.R.E. role model, and Peer Helping. Her hobbies include photography, crafts, wrestling cheerleading.
