Sparboe burns buildings; intends to rebuild
A large controlled burn began Friday evening (July 24) and continued throughout the weekend just west of Highway 169 in northern Webster County. The former Farm Egg facility, now Sparboe Farms Inc., burned the remains of several large hen-laying buildings on its site, with plans to rebuild. Sparboe was one of many Iowa chicken and turkey producers hit with the Avian Influenza this past winter and spring. Sparboe plans to continue egg processing operations at the site while waiting to repopulate its flock.
