Council approves portable stops at St. Mary School
With the start of the school year just 2.5 weeks away, the Humboldt City Council took action Monday night to improve school safety in the city. The council passed an ordinance requiring four-way portable stop signs be placed on streets around St. Mary Elementary School, to halt traffic while students are walking to and from school. The ordinance will require four-way stop signs at the intersections of Third Avenue North and Fourth Street North, Fourth Avenue North and Fourth Street North and Fourth Avenue North and Third Street North from the months of August through June on days when St. Mary School is in session. The portable stop signs will be in place one hour before school begins in the morning to one hour after school is dismissed in the afternoon.
