Petersen donation provides recreation field expansion

Thanks to the generous donation of a Humboldt couple, the Jim Heinz Youth Sports Complex is expanding, according to Humboldt Recreation Director Susan Rutz. Bill and Sheri Petersen of Humboldt have donated property north of the 1800 block of West River Drive to the city for an expansion of the youth recreation facility. The properties consist of four lots lying north of 1809-1811 West River Drive. They abut with the south edge of the Jim Heinz ball fields. They measure about 400 feet long by about 100 feet wide. “Living and working around here (the Petersens live on West River Drive and operate B&N Auto on Highway 3), we see the amount of traffic and the number of people who use the complex. It’s great for neighbors and the public. Now my grandkids can use it,” Bill Petersen said. “We are thrilled with Bill and Sheri’s generous donation and want to thank them for providing additional land for an improved facility,” Rutz said.
