Humboldt wrestlers advance 7 into district round

The Humboldt High wrestling team finished second in the team scoring of a Class 2A Sectional tournament held Saturday (Feb. 4) in the Humboldt gym. The Wildcats finished with 222.5 points to finish behind first-place Webster City (242). Woodward-Granger was a distant third at 204.5, followed by Southeast Valley (142), Greene County (130) and Roland-Story (70).

Half of the Wildcat lineup of 14 kept their seasons alive by placing either first or second individually, to earn a berth in the district meet to be held in Webster City on Feb. 11. The top two placewinners will meet the top two placewinners from the 2A sectional held in Algona. The top two finishers in the district meet advance to the individual state tournament in Des Moines Feb. 16-18. In addition, Humboldt qualified for a berth in a regional dual meet to be held Tuesday, Feb. 7, in Atlantic. Humboldt meets Red Oak and Atlantic/CAM meets Harlan. The finalist from each four-team regional across the state will comprise the state dual team tournament field, which takes place Feb. 15 in Des Moines.

Winning titles for Humboldt was Cresten Craven at 120 pounds, Elijah Torres at 145, Jaden Kampen at 152, Gus Arnold at 160 and Justin Jones at 285. Placing second for the Wildcats was Zach Kollmorgen at 126 and Joey Busse at 138.
