Ernst talks help for frontline workers

Many people have said, “don’t forget about the frontline workers,” as we provide aid and support during this global pandemic.
On Saturday, about 20 of those frontline workers, Emergency Medical Service (EMS) volunteers, were able to relate their needs, wants and frustrations to Iowa junior Senator Joni Ernst.
Ernst visited the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital (HCMH) ambulance garage late Saturday morning and heard from about 20 EMS personnel, representing the communities of Humboldt, Renwick and Bode.
One of the items Ernst talked about is the Frontline Act she introduced.
“It would recognize essential service workers, from doctors and nurses to truckers and grocers. It’s an established list through Department of Homeland Security, but those people working through the pandemic would receive a federal tax dollar suspension for that time worked during the pandemic. There would be no payroll tax and no federal income tax,” Ernst said.
“We have focused on the unemployed…and there has been so much of an emphasis on that, that we haven’t focused on essential service workers,” she said. Read more about her visit in this week's Humboldt Independent, your trusted source for local news and sports.
