Junk day for Humboldt and DC is May 2
Junk day for the city of Humboldt begins Monday, May 2. All items should be curbside by 6 a.m. that week. All appropriate items will be collected by Friday, May 6. There is a limit of one truckload per household.
Items that can be placed in regular trash bags should be disposed of in that manner. They must have the city orange sticky tag around them and will be picked up during the regular garbage route that week.
Items that are not acceptable and will not be collected are waste oil, wire, tires, batteries, items that contain Freon, paint, shingles, cement, steel construction, demolition materials and hazardous waste. These items will be left curbside and must be removed by the property owner or face a municipal citation.
In order to have items such as appliances, TVs, computers and other electronic equipment picked up, it must have a sticker attached. Stickers are available at Humboldt City Hall, 29 5th St. S., for a cost of $10 per sticker. City Hall hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Unauthorized hauling of appliances or electronics by private individuals will be prosecuted by local and state law, as the handling and processing of such items is strictly regulated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The city of Dakota City will also be having its junk and brush pick up beginning Monday, May 2. All junk and brush should be in separate piles.
The same rules apply for items not collected as the city of Humboldt. Household bags of trash will not be collected as part of the city of Dakota City junk collection.
TVs, computers, household appliances and other electronic equipment must have a sticker on them to be picked up. Stickers are available at Dakota City Hall, 26 5th St. S., Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $10 per sticker.
