HCMH breaks ground on mental health clinic

The demand for therapy and counseling services continues to grow. The areas of need are not just physical in nature, but mental as well.
On Sept. 2, Humboldt County Memorial Hospital (HCMH) took the first step toward providing space for new and existing practitioners and increasing service for adults and children with mental health needs, as the hospital broke ground on a 3,000 square foot addition for outpatient therapy and counseling services.
Representatives from Atura Architecture in Clear Lake were on hand as well Joel Armitage, president of Sande Construction in Humboldt, the general contractor for the building project.
“This is a great step toward meeting a pretty significant need in our community,” HCMH Chief Executive Officer Michelle Sleiter said.
“This space will allow us to expand mental health services in Humboldt County,” Mental Health Counselor and Registered Play Therapist Nolan Vitzthum said. “We hopefully can bring in more providers to provide mental health services to people of all ages.
