Humboldt posts 4th straight shutout, blank Boone 37-0
The No. 1 ranked Humboldt football team recorded its fourth straight shutout victory to open the season, blanking Boone 37-0 at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt on Friday night (Sept. 16).
The current Wildcat squad is the first in school history to begin the season with four straight shutout victories. Only three times in the last 67 years has a Humboldt team opened the season with 3 straight shutout victories, joining the 2005 and 1955 squads.
Lance Coon rushed for 122 yards on 14 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead the 4-0 Wildcats. Senior Will Orness, who moved from receiver to quarterback, passed to Corey Dettmann for a 25-yard first quarter touchdown. Orness rushed 14 times for 131 yards.
Humboldt's Trever Beach kicked a 37-yard field. Dettmann caught seven passes for 76 yards and Michael Illg led the HHS defense with six tackles.
Humboldt begins Class 3A District 2 action at Ballard Huxley on Friday, Sept. 23.
