The fifth annual non-profit Veterans Appreciation Concert is scheduled for this summer, Saturday, Aug. 5, in Lower Sheldon Park.
The event is intended as a salute and thank you to reserve, active duty personnel and all veterans who have served and are still serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The concert is free to all veterans and active-duty military, National Guard and military reservists, as well as children ages 15 and under. There will be a to-be-determined gate admission donation for non-veterans.
Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. for the Aug. 5 concert, with opening ceremonies from the U.S. Air Force 133 Air National Guard Honor Guard unit.
Mojo Productions will be handling sound for the event and providing music prior to the bands.
There will be several food vendors on site and the Dakota City VFW Post No. 5240 will be operating a beverage garden. There will be a bouncy house for kids at the park, provided by Pat Hogan.
Event coordinator Dwight Lindquist says the concert, which is held in odd-numbered years, has been a huge success and helps raise awareness of the many needs of veterans and their families.
The opening act will be Jesse Wilson and Friends from Fort Dodge, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jesse is a Midwest Country Music Organization member and blends genres of country and rock with original songs and live covers. The band's lead guitarist is Peter Stockdale of Humboldt.
