Iowa State wrestlers dominate Wisconsin, 42-0
In its first top-25 dual matchup of the young season, the No. 10 ranked Iowa State Cyclones made a statement by dominating the 18th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers, 42-0 inside the Humboldt gym on Sunday, Nov. 19.
It was another impressive performance for the Cyclones in the hometown gym of their seventh-year head coach, Kevin Dresser, who won two state tiles for Humboldt in 1980-81.
Kysen Terukina at 125, Casey Swiderski at 149 and David Carr at 165 all defeated top-15 foes in the bout. ISU won the takedown battle, 27-2. It was just the second shutout in the series between Iowa State and Wisconsin, with the last being a 52-0 Cyclone win in 1922.
In a featured bout at 165 pounds, Carr, ranked No. 2, edged No. 4 ranked Dean Hamiti, 2-0. Terukina, No. 17, rolled to a 14-3 major decision over Eric Barnett, ranked No. 5. Terukina was named UFC Fight Pass Most Outstanding Wrestler for his performance on the day.
Swiderski, No. 13, rolled to a 15-0 victory over Joseph Zargo (24/14).
Iowa State returns to action at home on Sunday, Nov. 26, when they host No. 3 Iowa in a 2 p.m. match on ESPN.
