Algona rallies past Humboldt softball team, 13-9
Algona scored nine runs over the last two innings to force extra innings and went on to upend the Humboldt softball team, 13-9 in Humboldt on May 29 on Wildcat Field. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in NCC action. Humboldt had scored a run in the first, five in the third and three in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-0 lead.
Humboldt opened North Central Conference play at home on Friday, May 24, in a 5-3 victory over the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs. Humboldt started Elsie Hubbell on the mound and followed with Abby Armitage and Adalee Nolting to shut down the Bulldogs after taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Humboldt's seven-hit attack was led by Gracie Lyon and Jayden Kutschara each with two hits. Mia Schluter, Hubbell and Armitage each had one hit for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats visited Roland-Story on Tuesday, May 28, and posted a 12-7 victory over the Norse in non-conference play. Hubbell earned the win pitching. She worked the first three innings with Abby Armitage and Adalee Nolting splitting the rest of the innings. Claire Dieleman went 4-for-5 at bat for HHS. Hubbell was 3-for-5. Armitage 3-for-5 and Reagan Lee 3-for-4.
Humboldt visits Southeast Valley on May 30 and travels to Clear Lake on May 31. The Wildcats host Webster City on June 3 and Emmetsburg on June 4.
