On a recent summer afternoon, Ben Kuehnast reflected on his football career at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, where he begins his third season in the Panther program.
A 2022 Humboldt High School graduate, the 6-foot-7, 315-pound Kuehnast has entrenched himself among the number two players on the depth chart at offensive line. As he enters the midpoint of his career, he’s looking to gain more playing time this season after playing in one game near the end of last season.
“At the end of fall camp last year, I was at left tackle. At the very beginning I was on the scout team for two to three weeks. We had injuries at different positions and so I moved up to the second unit at right guard after the season started,” Kuehnast said.
“I’ve been at every spot in the two-deep roster except for center. I played right tackle in spring ball. Come this fall I could end up playing guard or tackle on either right or left side,” Kuehnast said.
“I can say confidently I was at both guard and tackle in the number two spot. This fall I could be at either position on either side,” Kuehnast said.
