Wildcats rout Solon, 35-3, advance into state semifinals!

The Humboldt High football team will play in the semifinals for the third time in four years after they rolled to a 35-3 victory over the Solon Spartans Friday night, Nov. 8, in a Class 3A quarterfinal round game in Humboldt on Mason Maach Field.

The Wildcats, 10-1, will face Mount Vernon in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 16, 7 p.m. inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. Mount Vernon rallied for a 31-28 victory over Algona in a quarterfinal round game at Mount Vernon. The other semifinal will have Dubuque Wahlert facing Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Wahlert defeated Independence 24-7 and SBL whipped Nevada, 53-21. Tickets can be purchased at the door to avoid the $5 online purchase fee.

Humboldt senior quarterback Coen Matson threw touchdown passes to Cash McIntire, Valley Davis and Keegan Groat and also ran for a score. Jaxson Kirchhoff also rushed for a touchdown as the Wildcats 21-3 at halftime, 35-3 entering the final quarter.
