The Humboldt High wrestling team, a perennial power under veteran head coach Chad Beaman and his coaching staff, will likely make some big headlines over the course of the next three months.
Beaman’s Wildcats enter the new season with 14 returning lettermen from last year’s squad that compiled a 22-2 overall dual record, 6-1 and first in the North Central Conference and fifth in the Class 2A state tournament.
Among Humboldt’s returnees, sophomore Broedy Hendricks went 46-3 and finished runner-up at state last year at 165. Senior Tyce Clarken was 43-8 last year and placed seventh at 126. Senior Owen Mayall was seventh at 120 and went 34-13. Senior Brady Beers was 29-20 and qualified at 138. Sophomore Jaxson Kirchhoff was 38-14 and qualified at 144 pounds last year. Senior Cyler Cirks, hampered with an injury late last season, is a two-time state qualifier.
“In Class 2A we can compete. I feel great about the kids we have on our team. The kids are confident, but at the same time no one is overconfident,” said Beaman, who begins his 22nd season leading Humboldt. He has an overall career won-loss record of 476-215-3.
“It’s going to be a tough task all season long. To be successful you have to have a lot of things go your way. I would like to put our team in the mix for a state title with any other team in the state in 2A, whether it be traditional tournament or state duals,” Beaman said. “When we get on a roll, we have the potential to be a very, very good team.”

“The sky is the limit with this group. I’m so proud of the way the kids have competed all year in all of their other sports. We’ll take them into the season slowly and break them in. When it’s all said and done, it really can be a special year for us,” Beaman said.
