Mavis Bowden, 95 of Humboldt, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at LifeGate Fellowship Church in Humboldt. Private family burial took place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Humboldt. Mavis Jane Law Bowden, daughter of Bert and Grace (Hansen) Law, was born Jan. 21, 1929, near Mallard. Mavis graduated from Gilmore City High School where she was captain of the girls’ basketball team. Mavis was united in marriage to James Franklin Bowden on Dec. 31, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Gilmore City.
Mrs. Bowden was employed by Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator for seven years. After Jim returned from the Korean Conflict, they farmed near Humboldt. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her home and china painting. Mavis belonged to the Order of Eastern Star (past Worthy Matron), United Methodist Women, VFW Auxiliary, and was a Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her siblings, Wilbur Law, Dorothy McNee and Thomas Law. She is survived by her children Sally Bowden (Mike Carney), William Bowden (Nancy) and Michelle Bowden, as well as her grandchildren Michael Bowden (Erinn Corson); Nickolas Bowden (Stephanie); Chelsea Nunn (Matt); Matthew Graham (Megan Thompkins); Jordan (Jenna) Smith; Colton Smith; Jeff Bowden (Stephanie); as well as her great grandchildren, Shelby, Emma, Brody, and Blaine Bowden; Scarlett, Calla and Nash Nunn; Jem and Jett Smith; Micheal Bowden (Paige); Tyler Bowden (Gabby); Allison Bowden; sisters-in-law Dolores Law and Louise Bowden.
