HHS girls 3rd in NCC wrestling

IOWA FALLS - Humboldt had four runner-up finishers and placed third in the team scoring of the North Central Conference girls' wrestling tournament held last Saturday, Jan. 18 at Iowa Falls.

Brooklyn Robinson at 235, Laina Dettmann at 130, Gracey May at 110 and Olivia Satern at 105 all finished second at their weight classes to lead the Humboldt. Placing third was Letty Jenson at 100, Dayton Leghorn at 145, Danica Diedrick at 170 and Kennedy Robinson at 190.

Algona won the team title with 208 points. Clear Lake was second at 182 and Humboldt next at 155. Iowa Falls-Alden was fourth with 89, Hampton-Dumont-CAL had 73 and Webster City had 63.5. Nevada competed individually but didn't count toward the team scoring.

Humboldt wrestled at Eagle Grove on Jan. 20 and won three matches in lopsided fashion. Humboldt whipped Eagle Grove (65-12), Northwood-Kensett (84-0) and Webster City (66-11), moving to 9-5 overall.

Humboldt competed in the Mason City tournament on Jan. 25.

The Class 1A state qualifying meet will be held on Jan. 31 at Osage, where the top two finishers at each weight class advance to the state tournament in Coralville on Feb. 6-7.
