The Humboldt girls’ basketball team improved to 11-9 overall, 7-4 in conference play by stopping Iowa Falls-Alden in Iowa Falls on Friday, Feb. 7.

Wildcat girls in 13-point win at St. Edmond
Humboldt's varsity girls' basketball team, playing without senior Morgan Mann who is nursing a knee injury, won their second game of the season over Fort Dodge St. Edmond by turning back the Gaels 54-41 in a North Central Conference game in Fort Dodge on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Ava Fischer scored 25 points to lead Humboldt, which improved to 10-9 overall, 6-4 in conference play. Paige Nelson had 10 points and Kaitlyn Nelson eight for the Wildcats. Meg Zweibohmer added five. Josie Harvey scored 17 to pace St. Edmond.

Clear Lake avenged a double overtime loss to Humboldt back in December by edging the Wildcats, 43-39 in a girls' North Central Conference basketball game in Humboldt on Jan. 31. Alexis Theiss scored 13 points and Taylor Schwenn had 10 for the Lions, who moved to 5-10 overall, 4-5 in conference play. Morgan Mann made 21 to pace the Wildcats. Ava Newton scored eight points and Kaitlyn Nelson added four for Humboldt. Ava Fischer and Paige Nelson each had three. Mann exited the game in the final 15 seconds when she collided with two Lion defenders and strained her left knee, which was surgically repaired 11 months ago.

Humboldt’s upset bid at Hampton-Dumont-CAL fell short Tuesday night (Jan. 28) in a 41-37 North Central Conference loss. Lily Hambly scored 14 points and MacKenzy Valley made 10 to lead the Bulldogs. Morgan Mann scored 14 to pace Humboldt with Paige Nelson making nine and Ava Fischer adding eight. Kaitlyn Nelson added six.

HDC improved to 16-1 overall, 8-1 in the NCC.

The Wildcats visit Algona on Feb. 11. They host Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Feb. 15, 7:30 p.m. in Class 3A opening round regional tournament play. The winner will likely play Estherville at Estherville on Feb. 19. Estherville hosts Eagle Grove in first round play.
