Wildcats at Clear Lake Friday

An old cliché about making your best growth between the first and second week of any football season is a known fact.
Humboldt’s ninth-year head football coach Derrick Elman is hoping that takes shape for his squad this week after they absorbed a 26-7 loss to the Spencer Tigers in a non-district season opener in Spencer last week (Aug. 28).
The Tigers scored three touchdowns in the second quarter and added another to take a 26-0 lead into the final period in last week’s game on Dale Norton Field in Spencer.
A seven-yard touchdown run by Humboldt quarterback Caden Fredin with 39 seconds left in the game accounted for the only points by the Wildcats on this particular night. Spencer, which leads the all-time series with Humboldt, 12-7, had lost three straight games to the Tigers going into this year’s game.
