DES MOINES - Nikko Wheeler and Reed Dreyer came away with sixth-place medals while Dylan Hendricks placed eighth in Saturday's consolation finals of the Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. All three are juniors for the Wildcats, who sent five wrestlers down to state two days earlier.Wheeler lost two matches on Saturday at 182 pounds. He lost by fall in 3:51 to Jay Reisetter of East Marshall, then lost a fifth-place bout to Colton Spauer of Knoxville by fall in 2:44. Dreyer lost a pair of matches at 195 pounds on Saturday as well, falling 4-3 on a late reversal by Ballard's Alex Macki, then a 9-7 overtime decision to Lance Evans of Solon. Hendricks, at 285 pounds, wrestled once on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Mario Pena of Hampton-Dumont.FRIDAY EVENING RESULTS AT STATEWheeler's bid for a state championship came up short Friday night (Feb. 15) in the 182-pound semifinal round of the state tournament.

Oak Hill Baptist Church is providing a night of fun for married couples of all ages in the local community. It’s the second annual marriage event, this Sunday night, Feb. 17, starting at 6 p.m. Last year’s event was a great success, and the hope is to include even more couples from the community this year. The event is encouraging, fun and free. The theme this year is “The Love Boat,” and the church will be decorated in appropriate fashion. The evening will feature prizes and laughs, scrumptious hors d’oeuvres, a shared message and discussion with the Rev. Doug Wolter about ways to maintain a happy and healthy marriage, and some beautiful contemporary worship songs led by the Praise Band. The evening is intended for married couples of all ages and all faiths. It is an adults only evening, as no child care will be provided at the church.

Drainage matters dominated discussion at a two-hour meeting of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors Monday morning. And the good news is that the state of Iowa may be helping Humboldt County plug more ag drainage wells in the county. Engineer Rick Hopper with Jacobson-Westergard and Associates of Estherville, reported to the board that 65 ag drainage wells had been closed in Humboldt County through the fall of 2012. The current Drainage District project in Drainage District No. 2, located southeast of Gilmore City, will close nine ag drainage wells. Hopper said there is a prospect of receiving partial state funding for the closing of many more in the not too distant future. “I’ve had discussions with Mike Bourland with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS). He wants cost estimates on any projects that we have that are close to being ready to work on,” Hopper said.
