Wildcats go 1-2 at Carroll

Humboldt went 1-2 in the Carroll tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Wildcats defeated Ar-We-Va in two sets and lost in three sets (2-1) to IKM-Manning and Nodoway Valley. Wildcats remain unbeaten, pound Algona, 34-14

Humboldt exploded for 21 third quarter points en route to a 34-14 victory over the Algona Bulldogs Friday night at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt. The victory kept the Wildcats unbeaten on the season at 4-0 overall, 2-0 in Class 3A District 3 action.Humboldt, which led 7-0 at halftime, got three touchdowns from quarterback Jaxon Heinz and two from Brady Ross. Heinz passed to Jack Curran and Austin Zylstra for touchdown strikes, and ran for another. Ross had runs of 40 and six yards as the Wildcats powered their way to a 28-0 lead after three quarters of play.Humboldt will travel to Clear Lake Friday, Sept. 27, for a key district showdown with the unbeaten Lions.See complete story and photos in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. Break-in Monday at TR School

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) was called to the Twin Rivers Elementary School, 200 College Ave., Bode, early Monday morning for a suspected intruder. According to Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger, a janitor arrived at the school at 6:30 a.m. on Monday and heard an unknown person running down the hall. The janitor immediately alerted authorities and left the building for a brief time to notify Twin Rivers Principal Don Hasenkamp, who lives nearby. All available sheriff’s deputies along with a member of the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division and members of the Humboldt Police Department arrived at the scene and surrounded the building. It was determined that the suspect had escaped the premises. It was determined that a thief or thieves had gained access to the school sometime prior to 6:30 a.m. Monday through a broken glass window to the art room.
