HHS girls 2nd, boys 7th in Webster City cross country meet

Humboldt's girls finished second and the boys were seventh in their respective team scoring of the Webster City Invitational cross country meet held Tuesday (Sept. 3) at Links Golf Course north of Webster City.Humboldt's girls totaled 56 team points to finish behind first-place Algona at 45. Boone was third with 80. Sam Larson was third overall to pace the Wildcats girls. She ran 16:11.78. Maddie Kampen was fifth in 16:44.38.Humboldt's boys totaled 199 points for seventh. Algona won the meet with 32 points. Boone was second at 38. Jake Miller led the Wildcats boys by placing 14th in 18:23.27. COOK OF THE WEEK - WENDY LENSING

Favorite menus for this week’s cook, Wendy Lensing, include lots of summer vegetables and anything on the grill; and her recipes reflect that. Wendy grew up in Iowa and Pennsylvania and is the Executive Director of the Iowa Firefighters Association. She and her husband, Dave, moved to Humboldt in 2006 from Vinton. Dave, a Minnesota native, is the Energy Center Manager for Corn LP. Wendy and Dave have been married for 18 years and are the parents of three children and the grandparents of six. They attend Zion Lutheran and St. Mary’s Churches. Besides cooking, Wendy enjoys gardening and bicycling and is a member of Master Gardeners. Dave also enjoys gardening and bicycling. Wendy says, “We grow lots of vegetables in our gardens. In the summer I love to cook with fresh vegetables.

Humboldt girls top MNW in 5 sets

Humboldt's varsity volleyball team improved to 5-1 on the season by turning back Manson-NW in five sets Tuesday night (Sept. 3). The Wildcats won by scores of 23-25, 25-15, 25-15, 22-25 and 15-11.GO 4-1, FINISH 2ND IN OWN TOURNAMENTHumboldt High volleyball team opened their season Saturday (Aug. 31) in the Humboldt tournament and went 4-1 to finish second overall. The Wildcats defeated Emmetsburg, Ogden, West Bend-Mallard and North Union. They fell to No. 8 ranked South Central Calhoun, which went 5-0 on the day to take first-place.Humboldt hosts Clarion-Goldfield on Sept. 12.
