Humboldt girls advance to state cross country meet!

The Humboldt High girls' cross country team secured another trip to the Class 3A State Championship by placing third in a state qualifying meet at Perry on Oct. 23rd. The Wildcats (90 points) finished behind Gilbert (32) and Winterset (84). Maddie Kampen finished ninth overall in 15:52 to pace the Wildcats. The top three teams and the top 10 individuals advance to the state meet to be held Nov. 1 at Lakeside Golf Course north of Fort Dodge.Humboldt's boys came up short in their bid for a state berth, placing seventh overall with 205 points. Gilbert (36), Algona (59) and Dallas Center-Grimes (72) took the top three spots in the boys' team scoring to advance to state.See complete story in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. Supervisors agree to move forward on LEC

The aging Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center (LEC) could be in for some major upgrades after action taken by the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors at their regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 20. The board voted unanimously to proceed with applying for grants and no interest loans for a $1.1 million renovation and addition project at the LEC, which is located at the corner of 5th Street South and Sumner Avenue in Humboldt. Major components of the project include a new 2,050 square foot addition to the west estimated at $547,000, remodeling work estimated at $213,000, and a new 9-1-1 system and technology upgrades estimated at $350,000. Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger and grant writer Linda Frideres met with the supervisors on to discuss the project. Humboldt hosts Gilbert in 1st round playoff game

The Humboldt High football team will host Gilbert in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs this week. The Wildcats will host Gilbert in a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Other first round games involving teams in District 2 include Webster City at Ballard Huxley, Greene County at Creston and Adel-ADM at Carroll. The second round will take place on Monday, Nov. 3.

Wildcats beat Perry in season finale, 28-19

Humboldt closed out its regular season Friday night (Oct. 24) by beating Perry, 28-19 in a Class 3A District 2 football game at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt. The Wildcats locked up second place in their district and secured a home field spot in the first round of the playoffs which begin on Oct. 29.
