Wildcat softball team wins NCC title!

The Humboldt softball team gathered for a photo after defeating Iowa Falls-Alden on June 30 to wrap up their North Central Conference season in which Humboldt won its second straight conference championship. Independent photo by Phil Monson.

The No. 4 ranked Humboldt softball team wrapped up its conference season Friday night by blanking Iowa Falls-Alden 2-0. The Wildcats moved to 27-4 overall and finish alone on top of the NCC at 13-1.

Humboldt clinched the North Central Conference title by stopping Algona, 8-3 Wednesday night (June 28) in Algona. Humboldt amassed 13 hits. Carlie Thompson, Avery Terwilliger and Olivia Birdsell each had three hits for the Wildcats while Ellie Jacobson pitched a six-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Humboldt tangles with Estherville-Lincoln Central on Thursday night. Humboldt hosts Spencer on July 3 in their final regular season game. The Wildcats host Gilbert on July 5 in first round Region 3 Tournament game at 7 p.m.

Humboldt softball team in 10-1 victory over H-D

Humboldt moved one step closer to winning the North Central Conference softball title Monday night by whipping Hampton-Dumont, 10-1. The Wildcats, now 24-4 overall, 11-1 in the NCC, got a six-hit pitching performance from Ellie Jacobson while Jacobson, Olivia Birdsell, Mady Lange and TaylorGidel each had two hits for Humboldt. The Wildcats visit Pocahontas Area on Tuesday, June 27, for a non-conference game.

No. 4 Wildcat girls split 4 weekend games
Humboldt's No. 4 ranked softball team split four games last weekend in tournament action. Humboldt visited Boone on June 23 and lost 10-0 to the host Toreadors. Humboldt came back to beat Chariton, 12-5. In the Pella Christian tournament on June 24, the Wildcats lost 9-1 to Albia and defeated Prairie City Monroe, 9-2.

Wildcat baseball team in 9-2 victory over Bulldogs

Humboldt's varsity baseball team evened its North Central Conference record at 5-5 by stopping Hampton-Dumont, 9-2 Monday night (June 26) in Humboldt. Devon Clark pitched a 3-hitter and had three hits to power the Wildcats, who improved to 12-9 on the season.

Humboldt snapped a five-game losing skid by ripping Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, 17-3 on June 24 in the Estherville-LC tournament. The Wildcats were coming off a 5-4 loss to ELC in the first game Saturday, as well as a 7-1 home loss to Iowa Falls-Alden the night before.

The Wildcats visit North Union on June 28. They play at Algona on June 29. HHS visits Clarion on Friday, June 30.

The Humboldt-Dakota City Chamber of Commerce wants people to know that it is on the move, in every sense of the word.
Beginning next Friday, June 30, the Chamber will be in its new offices at 627 Sumner Ave. The former location of The Bootery will not only be the Chamber’s new headquarters, it will also be the location of the new Welcome Center for Humboldt County.
“In discussions with the Board of Directors it was agreed that the Chamber needed a bigger presence in the community. By having our own office space and opening a Welcome Center for Humboldt County, we hope to expand our ability to promote the community of Humboldt and the county as a whole,” Chamber Director Jenna Mulford said.
