Wildcat boys in 75-46 victory at Clarion

The Humboldt boys basketball team kept up their winning ways by rolling past Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 75-46 on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 30) in Clarion. Humboldt is now 9-5 overall, 6-3 in conference play.

Wildcats down St. Edmond, 59-30
The Humboldt boys basketball team went on the road Friday night (Jan. 29) and defeated the Fort Dodge St. Edmond Gaels, 59-30. The victory improved Humboldt to 5-3 in conference play, 8-5 overall. It gave Humboldt a season sweep of the Gaels.

Wildcat boys upend Algona, 60-48
The Humboldt boys' basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak with an impressive, 60-48 victory over the Algona Bulldogs on Jan. 26 in Humboldt.

Sam Fischer scored 19 points, Caden Matson had 12, Gabe Gidel made 9 and Trevor Jacobson added eight to lead Humboldt, which moved to 7-5 overall on the season, 4-3 in North Central Conference play. Garrett Goche scored 13 to pace Algona.

Cowgirls down Wildcats, 54-41

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows handed Humboldt only its third conference loss of the season on Saturday (Jan. 30), 54-41 inside the CGD gym on Saturday, Jan. 30. Kendal Clark scored 16 points and Bae Arnold had 14 ti lead Humboldt, 13-4 overall, 7-3 in conference play. Morgan Middleton scored 16 points and Raven Kinnetz had 11 to pace the Cowgirls.

Humboldt girls handle St. Edmond, 63-44
The Humboldt girls basketball team made it a season sweep of Fort Dodge St. Edmond by running past the Gaels, 63-44 in Fort Dodge on Jan. 29. The victory moved Humboldt to 13-3 overall, 7-2 in conference play.

Humboldt girls hold off Algona, 50-49
Kendal Clark scored 22 points and Bae Arnold was next with nine to lead the Humboldt girls' basketball team past Algona, 50-49 in a North Central Conference game in Humboldt on Jan. 26.

Alexa Chase scored 14 points and Lillian Etherington had 13 for Algona.8

Clark 2nd, Elizondo 3rd as Wildcat girls finish 2nd in state wrestling

Kendal Clark finished runner-up at 170 pounds and Maria Elizondo placed third at 160 pounds to lead the Humboldt girls' wrestling team to a runner-up finish in the team scoring of the girls state wrestling tournament inside Xtreme Arena in Coralville on Saturday, Jan. 23.

Clark, ranked first and the defending state champion, took a 6-0 lead over Denver senior Morgan Smith midway through the first period. Smith reversed Clark and locked up the top position to win by fall.

Humboldt, which was seventh in the team scoring a year ago, finished runner-up to Waverly-Shell Rock. WSR totaled 256 points while Humboldt had 124. Colfax-Mingo was third at 119. Spencer was fourth at 115, followed by Osage (114), Charles City (109), Decorah (106), Bettendorf (87), Ridge View (87) and Anamosa (85) to round out the top 10.

NCC titles for Wildcats' Colten, Jase Goodell as Humboldt finishes 2nd in team scoring

Jase Goodell won the 126-pound class and Colten Goodell won the 220-pound division to lead the Humboldt wrestling team to a runner-up finish in the team scoring of the North Central Conference wrestling tournament in Webster City on Saturday, Jan. 23.

Jase Goodell pinned Cale Kirstein of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in the finals to improve to 25-1 on the season. Goodell is ranked in the top five in two different polls.

Colten Goodell won by forfeit over Kain Nelson of CGD at 220. Goodell moves to 22-7 overall. The Wildcats' Colby Clarken was a runner-up at 138 pounds. The senior was pinned by Reed Abbas of CGD in 1:39. Clarken is now 23-8 on the year.

Wildcat girls 2nd after day one of the state wrestling tournament

The Humboldt girls wrestling team is in second place in the team scoring after the first day (Jan. 22) of the state wrestling tournament at Xtreme Arena in Coralville.

The Wildcats have 80 team points. Waverly-Shell Rock is the leader with 115 points. Osage is third at 76 with Colfax-Mingo fourth with 67.

Humboldt has three alive in the championship bracket and four in contention in the consolation bracket.

Wildcat 160-pounder Maria Elizondo went 2-0 on the day to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Humboldt 126-pounder Baylie Beers went 3-0 to stay alive. Wildcat senior Kendal Clark will wrestling in the 170-pound class on Saturday.

In the consolation side, the Wildcats have 106-pounder Lillian Morey (3-2), Deni McDaniel (2-1) at 132, Kali Beaman (2-1) at 145 and Alexa Hemmelrick (2-1) at 152.

Action begins Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.

Vaccine information from HCMH administration

Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate through the plans of the COVID-19 vaccine. As of today (Thursday, Jan. 21,) we have received a total of 400 prime (1st) dose and 300 2nd doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. We have given 328 of the 400 prime doses and started the 2nd doses of vaccine on Monday, Jan. 18. As of yesterday, 109 individuals have received their 2nd dose.
The Iowa Department of Public Health has begun updating their documents and preparing us for what Phase 1b will look like. As of now, Feb. 1 is the date that we would be able to move into the next phase. We are awaiting the number of doses this will be for Humboldt County to determine how we are going to manage getting the priority groups vaccinated as quickly as possible.

Humboldt boys fall at Clear Lake, 69-49

The Humboldt boys basketball team traveled to Clear Lake on Jan. 22 and lost a 69-49 contest to the Lions. The setback moved Humboldt to 6-5 overall, 3-3 in the North Central Conference.

Humboldt's Jan. 19 game at home with Webster City has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 4.

Humboldt is slated to host Algona on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
