Wildcat boys in 2-1 triumph, move to 11-2

Humboldt's varsity boys' soccer team improved their season record to 11-2 by stopping Iowa Falls-Alden, 2-1 on Monday, May 10 at Iowa Falls.

Wildcat boys win Carroll soccer tournament
Humboldt went 2-0 on the day to win the Carroll tournament last Saturday, May 8. Humboldt beat the Carroll Tigers 4-1 and followed with a 2-0 victory over West Central Valley.

Humboldt shutout Clear Lake, 7-0 on May 6 at Clear Lake. Christian Ramirez scored three goals to lead the Wildcats.

Wildcats blank Nevada on 2 penalty kicks, 2-0
The Humboldt boys' soccer team ran their season record to 7-2 overall Tuesday night (May 4) by shutting out the Nevada Cubs, 2-0 in Humboldt.

Penalty kicks by Christian Ramirez and Max Mason late in the second half produced the winning goals for Humboldt.

Humboldt has a busy week of games. The Wildcats visit East Sac on May 11. Humboldt hosts Fort Dodge on May 13. The Wildcats play in a tournament at Garner on May 15.

HHS girls 2nd at CGD Invitational

Nora Carlson shot an 80 to earn medalist honors in leading the Humboldt girls’ golf team to a runner-up finish in the Cowgirl Invitational at Clarion on May 1.

Humboldt finished with 416 strokes in the six-school field. Clear Lake won with 379 strokes. Rebecca (82) and Meghan DeLong (83) led the Lions. Aries Packard backed Carlson with a 107. Ashlee Wergeland shot 114 and Tori Gargano and Adalynn Lawman each had 114. Noelle Hamand fired a 117.

Humboldt finished with 190 strokes to upend Iowa Falls-Alden (190-202) in a conference dual at Iowa Falls on April 30. Carlson shot a 43 and Wergeland a 46 to pace the Wildcats. Rana Janes led the Cadets with a 49.

Humboldt will focus on the upcoming North Central Conference meet set for Monday, May 10 in Mason City.

Wildcat boys 4th in Storm Lake Invitational

Gabe Gidel shot an 86 to lead the Humboldt boys’ golf team to a fourth-place finish in the Storm Lake Invitational held last Saturday, May 1 at Lake Creek Country Club.

Humboldt finished with 368 strokes in the 10-team field of schools. Spencer shot a 354 to take the top spot with Carroll Kuemper second at 362 and Newell-Fonda third at 364.

Hogan Henrich of Newell-Fonda was medalist with a six-over-par 78. Jagaar Halverson of Spencer was next at 81.

Iowa Falls-Alden edged Humboldt by three strokes in an NCC meet in Humboldt on April 30. The visiting Cadets shot 166. Humboldt totaled 169. Jayden Gargano shot a 39 to pace the Wildcats. Gabe Gidel and Carson Arndt each had a 43. Carter Arends fired a 37 to lead IFA.

Humboldt is focused on the final stretch of the season. The North Central Conference meet will be Monday, May 10 in Fort Dodge. The Class 3A Sectional Tournament will be May 13 at Spencer.

Wildcat boys 3rd in NCC track meet

The Humboldt boys' track team placed third in the North Central Conference meet held at Hampton on May 6. Humboldt finished with 126 points, just shy of runner-up Webster City (126.5) and well below first-place Clear Lake (191).

Quinton Orr and Eric Wittrock went 1-2 in the 3,200-meters in 10:25.90 and 10:38.08, respectively. Orr and Wittrock also went 1-2 in the 800-meters in 1:57.59 and 1:58.42, respectively. Orr won the 1,600-meters in 4:36.57. Orr and Wittrock joined Cale Hundertmark and Carson Berte in the 4x400 relay, which took first in 3:32.49.

Humboldt's winning events include Lance Coon in the 100-meter dash, Eric Wittrock in the 800-meters, Troy Gerjets in the 110-meter hurdles, the distance medley relay, Lance Coon in the long jump, Ben Kuehnast in the shot put and Kaleb McCullough in the discus.

Humboldt won six events and claimed the team title in the Hackbarth Relays in Algona on Monday, May 3.

Winning for Humboldt was Morgan Olson in the 100-meters, Paige DeWinter in the 200-meters, Lily Groat in the 100-meter hurdles, Lily Groat in the 400-meter hurdles, the 4x100 relay, Kendal Clark in the discus.

The Wildcats will focus on the North Central Conference meet to be held in Humboldt on Thursday, May 6.
