Shopko Grand Opening held

After a four-month liquidation sale and store conversion process, Shopko Hometown in Humboldt opened its doors Thursday morning with a Chamber ribbon cutting and an enthusiast response from local shoppers. The grand opening event was highlighted by a $2,500 check presentation from the Shopko Hometown Foundation by Store Manager Laurie Baadte to Humboldt School Superintendent Greg Darling and Humboldt High School Principal Lori Westhoff. “We plan on using the funds for a number of different projects at the high school,” Darling said. “We are very excited with this commitment to education from Shopko Hometown and their commitment to the community with the improvements to the store. We love that local businesses and industries consider education a top priority,” Darling said. The newly remodeled 25,000 square foot general merchandise retail store will feature a number of name brands such as Nike, Fisher-Price, Wrangler and KitchenAid, as well as many private label brands of apparel, home furnishings, toys, consumer electronics and seasonal items. Baadte emphasizes that Shopko has kept its fishing/hunting/camping equipment department, and has a larger selection of food and snack items than some of the larger Shopko stores.
