Compromised offered on Bradgate road

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors and the city of Bradgate may have reached a temporary solution to road shoulder problems on County Road C-26 through the city. Supervisor Jerry Haverly made a motion at the board's meeting on Monday to add gravel edging to increase the shoulder height on C-26, within the community of Bradgate. “We have helped other towns out in situations like this. I would move to have the funds come from the county’s portion of Local Option Sales Tax dollars,” Haverly said. The supervisors voted unanimously for the motion. Supervisor Carl Mattes was not in attendance. The decision came after more discussion on the matter. Last week, Bradgate Mayor Sandy Edler showed the board pictures of the deteriorating condition of the roadway shoulders in her community. The pictures showed where the crushed rock and gravel leading up to the pavement were sometimes three to four inches below the top of the road. While C-26 is a county road, the city of Bradgate has jurisdiction to care for the road right of way through the city limits. The county has a 28E agreement with Bradgate and other small towns in the county. Under the agreement, Bradgate receives around $2,922 in farm-to-market road funds annually.
