City Council reviews Sumner Avenue sidewalk options

The Humboldt City Council reviewed plans for a new sidewalk with a retaining wall and wrought iron railing on Sumner Avenue, west and south of the Sumner Avenue Bridge during its regular bi-monthly meeting Monday night. The council reviewed a couple of options prepared by Derek Johnson, professional engineer with Schlotfeldt Engineering in Webster City. The first option is a barrier system with a sidewalk behind it, with a tall retaining wall. The second option is using the existing retaining wall, demolishing the sidewalk and constructing a new sidewalk behind the wall with another retaining wall behind it. The second retaining wall would be elevated and would have a railing on top to keep pedestrians on the sidewalk.
