New housing development planned in south central Humboldt
Another new housing development may be springing up in the southern portion of Humboldt, if plans by the Humboldt County Housing Development Corporation are realized. At Monday’s Humboldt City Council meeting, City Administrator Aaron Burnett, a member of the Humboldt County Housing Development Corp., announced that the organization had closed on the purchase of property encompassing the trailer park located at the south end of 5th Street South, on the west side of the street. The housing development corporation purchased the property for $63,000 from John Dunphy. “The intent is to develop that area into a much needed sector of housing in Humboldt. Several housing needs assessments as well as conversations with home buyers and relators have shown a real need for homes priced in the $100,000 to $200,000 range," Burnett said. Lot renters with mobile homes will have 90 days to relocate to another trailer park and will not be charged rent during that time period. Development of the potential housing site is expected sometime in early fall.
