Council hears concerns about city streets

Issues with city streets, handicapped parking and water bills punctuated a one-hour and 40-minute meeting of the Humboldt City Council Monday night. Among the citizens addressing the council was Gary Woodward, who lives on 11th Avenue South. Woodward spoke to the council about three months ago about the condition of the city street around his property and also the condition of 5th Street South, adjoining it. Woodward lives in an area that has both residential property and some nearby farm ground. “Nearly the entire length of street as well as 5th Street South, is breaking up. The road bed is crumbling and deteriorating and the edge of the road is sunken. Where culverts run under the road, it is washed out and is washing out the road itself,” Woodward said. He presented the council with a signed petition asking for repairs on 11th Avenue South and 5th Street South. The council said they were not certain at this time if there would be money for repairs in the immediate future. The city council is expected to take up the issue again this fall.
