Gilmore City bank robbed on Wednesday

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 1:53 p.m., a masked person carrying a semi-automatic handgun entered the Bank Iowa Gilmore City office on SE C Avenue and demanded money. According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) the suspect then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect is described by law enforcement as possibly being a female, about 5-foot, six-inches tall with dark hair. At the time of the robbery the suspect was reportedly wearing a red New York Yankees baseball cap with a flat bill, a red handkerchief bandana covering the face and a red, long-sleeved t-shirt, with a black baggy shirt over the t-shirt. The suspect had baggy worn blue jeans and dark tennis shoes with while soles. The HCSO was able to gather information on the suspect’s description from eyewitness accounts and from surveillance equipment inside the bank. The possible suspect vehicle is described as a teal or green-colored Chrysler Town and Country mini-van. The van reportedly left Gilmore City southbound on County Road P-19 and then took county gravel 530th Street west into Pocahontas County. The vehicle reportedly entered several road ditches and corn fields as it fled. Vehicle tracks lead deputies to the Lizard Lake area in Pocahontas County. Anyone with any information about the robbery or the suspect or suspect vehicle is asked to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) at 515-332-2471. Bank Iowa Gilmore City President David Boswell released the following statement about the robbery. “We are thankful that everyone is safe and law enforcement is handling the matter. We are pleased with their response,” Boswell said. The robbery took place shortly before the 2 p.m. window closing time at the bank on Wednesday. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Humboldt Police Department, Humboldt County Attorney’s Office, Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office, Pocahontas, Fonda and Laurens Police Departments, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
