Drainage assessments expected to decline

Good news on drainage for citizens of Humboldt and Dakota City, final assessments for work on Drainage District 13A in Humboldt are expected to decrease by an average of 10 percent. That was the word Monday night at the Humboldt City Council meeting. The Humboldt Council, acting as drainage district trustees for Drainage District 13A, held a public hearing to review a report released earlier in the day the drainage district commissioners for the district. Humboldt City Administrator Aaron Burnett reported that there was a $180,000 duplication of work completed in 13A in the original classification report. With that extra amount eliminated, nearly all of the assessments on residential and commercial properties will be decreasing by roughly 10 percent.
