Humboldt man killed in accident
A Humboldt man died Wednesday morning Oct. 30, from injuries received in a single-car accident in the town of Badger. According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, Joseph Earl “Spud” Colwell, 90, Humboldt, was northbound on Webster County Road P-59 where the county road intersects with 2nd Avenue SE in Badger. The vehicle failed to negotiate the T-intersection and the Buick continued northbound, leaving the roadway. It struck a legally parked semi-trailer that was in an adjacent lot. The accident occurred at 10:14 a.m. Trooper Kelly Hindman with the Iowa State Patrol said dense fog at the time of the accident may have been a contributing factor. Colwell was transported to the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge by hospital ambulance where he died from his injuries. An investigation into the accident continues. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Badger Fire Department and Unity Point Trinity Regional Medical Center Ambulance.
