Smaller towns have contested races

When local citizens go to the polls on Nov. 5, they will have many choices, with a number of mayors seats and city council seats up for election this fall. There also will be some changes in polling locations. Some will be for this city election only, and the others will be permanent voting location changes. On Tuesday, Nov. 5, the polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Here are the polling locations for the different cities (precincts). Bode City HallBradgate Fire Hall Dakota City City Hall Gilmore City Faith UMC Hardy Gold Eagle Co-OpHumboldt City Hall Livermore Public Library Ottosen Fire St./City HallPioneer Pro-Co-Op Renwick Methodist Church Rutland City Hall Thor Ullensvang Lutheran Church LuVerne Public Library Changes this year include the voting location in Hardy, it has been permanently changed to the Gold Eagle Co-Op. The polling place for all wards in the city of Humboldt will be Humboldt City Hall for this election. In Livermore, the polling location for this election will be the Livermore Public Library. There are no contested races in the county’s two largest towns, Humboldt and Dakota City. In Humboldt, Mayor Walter Jensen will be running for a fourth term unopposed. Dan Scholl will be running as a first-time candidate for the unexpired term of Steve Boomgarden in Ward 1, representing the southern portion of the city. Darrell Rusher will be running for re-election for at-large council member. Rusher’s is one of two at-large seats. The other seat is being held by Joe Hadar, and he is not running for re-election. His seat could be filled by write-in at the Nov. 5 election. It was announced Tuesday, that Bret L. Davis of Humboldt would accept a write-in election for the city council seat. The seats in the council’s Ward 2 and Ward 3 districts are not up for election. In Dakota City, Mayor Don Faltinson is running for re-election to a second term. Council member Tim Myers is also running for a second term on the council. Former council member Jim Van Horn is also running for election. Van Horn will be filling the seat vacated by the recent death of council member Roger Lindeman.
