Dreyer, Wheeler win NCC titles for Humboldt
Humboldt High seniors Nikko Wheeler and Reed Dreyer rose to the top on Saturday. The duo both claimed individual titles in the North Central Conference wrestling tournament in the Iowa Central gym in Fort Dodge.Wheeler won the 170-pound class while Dreyer won the 195-pound class, repeating from last year's championship. They helped Humboldt finish fourth in the team scoring of the event. Austen Gargano (126) was runner-up for the third straight year. Thaylan Bowman was third at 152 while Jake Miller took third at 132. Dylan Hendricks was fourth at 285. Also taking fourth was Levi Sawyer at 106, Jaden Kampen at 120, Mike Madsen at 138, Gus Arnold at 160 and Adam Mickelson at 182. Cordes Olthoff was sixth at 220.Dreyer defeated Webster City's Dylan Fielder, 7-5 in the championship match while Wheeler defeated Webster City's Connor Larson, 3-0 in the finals.Webster City won the team title with 203 points. Clarion-Goldfield was runner-up at 198, followed by Clear Lake at 171, Humboldt at 164, Algona with 125, Hampton-Dumont with 101.5, Fort Dodge St. Edmond at 70 and Iowa Falls-Alden with 50.The Wildcats are slated to host Eagle Grove in their final home dual of the season on Thursday, Jan. 30. They'll compete in the Guthrie Center tournament on Feb. 1. The Class 2A Sectional Tournament is Feb. 8 at Story City.See complete story and results in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper.
