Gronbach Construction receives bus barn contract

After years of planning and changes, the Humboldt Community School District bus barn project is now a reality. In their regular monthly Monday night (Mar. 17), the Humboldt School Board approved a bid of $263,548 from Gronbach Construction Company of Dakota City, to construct a new bus barn south of the existing facility, which is located just south of Casey’s General Store on 5th Street South in downtown Dakota City. Sande Construction Company of Humboldt submitted the other bid, which totaled $287,399. School Superintendent Greg Darling says with added options onto the project, it will still end up well below the $300,000 originally projected. “Buses have a life of 15-20 years tops, and so statistics show that if you have equipment and vehicles under a roof, it extends the life of vehicles and equipment,” Darling said. “It makes a difference. And it will be beneficial in the winter time for those cold weather starts.” “It looks like a very good bid overall,” board president Randy Hildreth said.
