Wildcat girls go 2-1 in Pella Christian tournament

Humboldt's varsity softball team went 2-1 in the Pella Christian tournament June 27-28. Humboldt opened on Friday by posting a 4-2 victory over Pella Christian. Beth Duffield was 3-for-4 at bat to lead Humboldt, which got an 8-hit pitching performance from Avery Terwilliger. The Wildcats lost to Prairie City Monroe on Saturday, 12-2, then defeated Belle Plaine, 7-6 in the second game Saturday. Lauren Friesth doubled and singled to lead Humboldt's 6-hit attack against PCM. HHS pitchers Lizzie Tecklenburg and Shelbie Miller combined to allow 4 hits. Humbold swatted nine hits against Belle Plaine as Terwillier led by going 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI. She also scattered 12 his pitching.Humboldt is now 18-9 overall on the season, will host Pocahontas at 5 p.m. on July 1 and Fort Dodge St. Edmond the same night at 6:30 p.m. Clarion-Goldfield visits Humboldt on July 2. The Wildcats play at Algona on July 3 in their final regular season contest. The Wildcats host Hampton-Dumont on July 8 in a first round 3A regional tournament game.Humboldt got back on the winning track with an 8-2 victory over Eagle Grove on June 26th in Humboldt. A 5-run fifth inning keyed the Wildcat victory, which included 7 hits. Avery Terwilliger pitched a 7-hitter. Humboldt improved to 9-5 in the NCC.Humboldt was dealt a 10-0 loss by Hampton-Dumont Wednesday night(June 25) in Humboldt. A 6-run third inning powered the Bulldogs. The Wildcats got 3 hits.Humboldt divided a pair of games with Webster City on June 24 in Humboldt. The Wildcats fell 7-6 in the first game, a continuation of the rainout contest from June 16th, and then defeated the Lynx 9-7 in the second game.Humboldt scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning to defeat Bishop Garrigan of Algona, 4-3 in a North Central Conference game in Algona Monday nigh (June 23). Avery Terwilliger pitched seven innings of four-hit ball for Humboldt. She struck out four. Terwilliger, Beth Duffield and Maddie Thomas each had two hits for the Wildcats.Humboldt concluded their two-day tournament on Saturday (June 21) with a pair of losses. The Wildcats fell 13-6 to Lisbon and 6-2 to Carroll. Lauren Friesth had three hits to pace Humboldt in the first game. Beth Duffield and Avery Terwilliger each had two hits. Lizzie Tecklenburg and Shelbie Miller combined to handle the pitching and scattered 10 hits.In the loss to Carroll, Terwilliger pitched six innings and scattered six hits. Duffield was 3-for-4 at bat, Kelsey Peters 2-4 and Friesth 2-4 with a double. Humboldt opened their two-day tournament by drubbing Aplington-Parkersburg, 16-2 in 6 innings Friday night (June 20). The Wildcats amassed 16 hits to back the pitching of Avery Terwilliger and Shelbie Miller.
