Ersland begins 1st year guiding Purdue wrestling
For 17 years, Humboldt native Tony Ersland paid his dues as an assistant wrestling coach, hoping to land a division one head position. His opportunity finally came last May when the 1992 Humboldt High School graduate was hired to lead Purdue University. Ersland, who had been an assistant at Nebraska the past eight years, told the Independent recently he is excited to get the season underway. “It’s very gratifying to become head coach of a Division I-A program. It’s something that has been a goal of mine ever since I began coaching,” Ersland said. “It’s been my ultimate dream. To have it realized now is extremely satisfying, rewarding and exciting.” See complete story in the Nov. 27 issue of the Humboldt Independent Newspaper.
