Andersen is parade Grand Marshal

This isn’t Marv Andersen’s first parade — far from it. “I’ve lead about 35 of them when I was on the police department or with the county sheriff’s office,” he said. For the longtime former Humboldt County Sheriff (1965-1997) this will be Marv Andersen’s first parade as grand marshal. Marv and his wife Karen will be near the front of the line Saturday when the annual Humboldt/Dakota City Chamber of Commerce 4th of July Parade begins at 7 p.m. They will be escorted by Jim Kellner in one of his Dream Carriage rides. Other holiday events this weekend in Humboldt will be harness races on both Saturday and Sunday at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds at 12:30 p.m. There will be motorcycle races at the Humboldt County Dragway on Saturday, with the gates opening at 8 a.m., and some camping available Friday night. There will be classes in all divisions. There will be swimming at the Humboldt Family Aquatic Center July 4 from 1-4 p.m., with free glow sticks and freeze pops for the kids. There will be a home run derby at Taft Park. Open cage hitting will be available from 1-5 p.m., with the derby starting at 5:30 p.m. There will be the annual fireworks display at 10 p.m. Saturday evening, generally recognized as one of the largest and best in the area.
