Humboldt has five selected for All-State music

On Saturday, Oct. 24, 13 band students and four choir students auditioned for the Iowa High School Music Association Iowa All State Band, Orchestra and Chorus. The band students prepared all 12 major scales, along with two very difficult musical selections and a solo, and the choir students prepared nine difficult songs for their auditions. The students who auditioned for band and orchestra were Kylie Burmeister, Sophia Luu, Breanna Bruening, Samantha Cordero, Michael Miller, Dillon Kirchhoff, Madeline Morey, Anna Lenz, Madison Smith, Jared Knapp, Carter Holm, Nathan Wright and Makayla McMannus. The students who auditioned for choir were Taylor McKimmey, Marcus Kocher, Keagan Burmeister and Sam George. All Humboldt students had outstanding auditions and worked very hard to prepare for this prestigious event. Only one percent of all Iowa high school musicians are accepted into All-State. Humboldt was fortunate enough to have four students and an alternate accepted. Sophia Luu (oboe) made the Iowa All State Orchestra. Michael Miller (French horn) and Kylie Burmeister (oboe) were all accepted to the Iowa All-State Band. Samantha Cordero (bassoon) was recalled and earned an alternate spot for the Iowa All-State Band. These students will travel to Ames on Nov. 19, 20 and 21 and prepare a concert with their designated ensembles. The All-State Concert will be aired on IPTV on Thanksgiving Day in the afternoon.
