Hog Slat expands operations in Humboldt
Construction is under way for a 106,000 square foot warehouse and manufacturing expansion project at Hog Slat in Humboldt. It is the second major expansion by Hog Slat in Humboldt in the past eight years and will lead to the possible addition of 10 more employees. Hog Slat currently employs 120 at its Humboldt facilities. Sande Construction is the general contractor and has been heating the ground to pour footings through the winter months. Completion of the 250’ by 425’ steel building is expected to be done by late May or early June. The new warehouse is being built in the Northwest Industrial Park on lots along 16th Avenue North (across from Union Cemetery). This is north and east of the current Hog Slat facilities. About 80 percent of the new structure will be used for warehouse space with about 20 percent for the manufacture of steel mats, currently produced in Hog Slat's Clinton, NC plant. More retail sales, a private label product line and expansion into providing equipment for the poultry business are the reasons behind the expansion, company officials said.
