Law Enforcement for the 21st century

The remodeled and newly constructed Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center is just a shadow of its former self, and that's a good thing. People who visit the new offices will barely recognize the old building, there are that many changes and improvements. A large dispatch area now includes evenly spaced computer monitors for closed-circuit camera viewing of not only the jail and LEC, but also of the Humboldt schools, the courthouse and other selected sites. A center lift console has been installed that can be raised and lowered at the touch of a button. It allows dispatchers the option of standing or sitting while working. “There is a video conference room in the front lobby area where visitors can visit with inmates in the jail, without having to go to the suspect booking area. It’s much more secure and also offers the inmate and their visitors more privacy,” Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger said. The six police officers and seven sheriff's deputies now have their own dedicated office space with their own computers. There are remodeled offices for the sheriff, chief deputy, office deputy and E-911 supervisor. For the complete story on the LEC and several photos, see this week's Humboldt Independent newspaper.
