VFW Commander to give Memorial Day address


VFW Commander Dave Lee will give the Memorial Day address at Bicknell Park in Humboldt, Monday, May 30. Activities will begin with a parade from the Law Enforcement Center to the Sumner Avenue Bridge at 9:15 a.m., followed by the Memorial Day program at 9:30 a.m.

Dave Lee, commander of the Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post in Dakota City, will give the Address of the Day at the Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 30, at Bicknell Park in Humboldt.
The day begins with flag raising at the cemeteries at sun up.
Line up for the parade begins at 9 a.m. at the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center.
The parade starts at 9:15 a.m. from the Law Enforcement Center and proceeds west on Sumner Avenue to Bicknell Park.
There will be a Salute to the Dead at the Sumner Bridge with the Eulogy of Veterans by Father Jim Tigges.
The Memorial Service begins at 9:30 a.m. at Bicknell Park with Ron Rasmussen serving as Master of Ceremonies. Father Tigges will give the invocation, followed by the crowd reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Observances will then be held at the cemeteries at the following times: 10:20 a.m. at Union Cemetery; 10:40 a.m. at Corinth Cemetery; 11 a.m. at Indian Mound Cemetery; 11:15 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery; and 11:30 a.m. at the Humboldt County Courthouse in Dakota City.
