Humboldt veteran head football coach Greg Thomas says his squad is facing a lot of unknowns entering the 2016 season.
Not only will the Wildcats rely on a new cast of players, they are embarking on a new district schedule in Class 3A which has Humboldt going west for the first time in over a decade.
“We’re really excited about the upcoming season. There are a lot of unknowns with a brand new schedule with some teams we have never played and some teams we haven’t played since 2004-2005,” said Thomas, who begins his 17th season at the helm.
Humboldt is coming off a 4-6 season in which the Wildcats went 3-3 and placed fourth in the former district two grouping, good enough to secure the final playoff spot in district play, where they lost at Webster City in a first round contest.
“Last year’s seniors are gone and we have some new faces and a lot of young guys who will get some opportunities to play this year,” Thomas said.
