Strong numbers with a group of 12 returning letterwinners provide optimism for the Humboldt High girls’ soccer team this season.
The Wildcats, led for the second straight year by head coach Rodd Mooney and assistant Justine Hellman, look to improve on last year’s record of 3-12.
“We’ve got great numbers. We have seven seniors, eight juniors, eight sophomores and 14 freshmen. It is a good mix of kids,” Mooney said. “We have some kids who went through the system a little bit last year and as the season went on, they became more comfortable at doing what I wanted us to do as a team. We got better as the season went on. That experience will help us build on this year.”
“We have kids who have played quite a bit and some who haven’t played much at all. It creates its own sort of challenges. At the same time, the veterans have been exercising good patience and the kids that are learning are learning fast. They come in with great attitudes,” Mooney said. “They have gotten off to a good start so far.”
