Busse NCC champ, Wildcat wrestlers 4th in team scoring

Humboldt's Joey Busse won his second North Central Conference wrestling tournament title today helped his team to a fourth-place finish in the 52nd annual meet held at Clarion Saturday (Jan. 19).
Busse was one of five Wildcat wrestlers who were finalists in the meet, but was the lone champ as Humboldt finished with 155.5 team points. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was first at 225, Clear Lake second at 177 and Hampton-Dumont-CAL third with 174. Webster City was fifth with 135 points, followed by Algona with 133, Iowa Falls-Alden with 113.5 and Fort Dodge St. Edmond with 10.
Humboldt got runner-up finishes from Justin Jones at 285, Joel Osborn at 182, Levi Naeve at 170 and Tyler Vitzthum at 152. Cole Nelson placed third at 106 pounds and fifth-place went to Braxden Scott at 195, Timmy Larson at 138, Jordan Jensen at 132 and Colby Clarken at 126. DJ Muir was sixth at 113 and Colten Goodell (220) was also sixth. Tanner McKimmey (160) did not place. Humboldt was open at 120 pounds.
The Wildcats wrap up their regular season in a quad at Perry on Thursday, Jan. 24. Humboldt will face Perry, Greene County and Ballard Huxley.
