BREAKING NEWS: Friday the 13th fatality in Humboldt County

A rollover accident Friday morning has claimed the life of a Storm Lake man, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the report, on Friday, Dec. 13 at 11:15 a.m., the Humboldt County Communication Center received a report of a single vehicle rollover accident in the 1100 mile of 270th Street (County Road C-49), 5.5 miles south of Gilmore City.
Deputies responded to the scene and determined that a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup owned and operated by Leonard Peterson, 82, of Storm Lake, was traveling eastbound on 270th Street when the pickup drifted to the north shoulder of the road and then swerved back to the south, where it overcorrected and Peterson lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle entered the south ditch and rolled several times before coming to rest on its wheels.
After coming to rest, Peterson drove the vehicle through fields toward a nearby field driveway before getting stuck.
The Humboldt County Memorial Hospital transported Peterson to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital where he later died.
The 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup sustained an estimated $8,000 damage and is deemed a total loss.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Gilmore City Fire and Ambulance, Humboldt Ambulance and Jergens Towing of Humboldt.
