Humboldt to host Purdue/Iowa State wrestling dual

The Humboldt High School gym will be the center of attention for wrestling in the state of Iowa when Purdue University and Iowa State University will wrestle a dual on Sunday, Dec. 20.
The two Division I-A programs will square off in what could be a battle of top 10 rated teams, both coached by Humboldt natives.
Tony Ersland, a 1992 Humboldt High School graduate and a two-time state champion in 1991 and 1992, has completed his sixth season leading Purdue. Iowa State head coach Kevin Dresser, who won state titles for Humboldt in 1980 and 1981, has completed his third year leading ISU.
“It is simply awesome! I’m so excited that we can have both teams come to our school and wrestle what could potentially be a dual between two top 10 teams,” Humboldt head coach Chad Beaman said. “I’m so glad they were able to work it out and settle on a date.”
“When coach Dresser and I talked about doing it three years ago when he came back to Iowa, I thought maybe he could arrange a dual with somebody like Iowa Central or another school close by,” Beaman said.
“He called right after the state tournament in February and said, ‘Hey, I think maybe we can get Purdue to come here.’ I said I would love to have Tony’s team here but I never thought that would be a possibility with them being so far away,” Beaman said.
